Use of artificial intelligence
We use artificial intelligence as a newsroom tool, never as an author. Today it does two jobs: translating and suggesting stories.
Translations
Stories are written in Portuguese. The English and Spanish versions are translated automatically by AI from the Portuguese, and the newsroom can review and correct each translation.
Until a translation is reviewed, the story shows the "Automatic translation" note, on the front page and at the top of the story. If the translation is not ready yet, the story appears in Portuguese.
Story ideas and drafts
An AI bot may suggest story ideas and drafts based on what other sites publish. Everything it suggests comes in as a draft and only goes live after a person in the newsroom reviews it. When a story starts at another site, it credits and links to that site.
Limits
Nothing is published on its own. Every story is written or reviewed in Portuguese by a person in the newsroom, who is accountable for it. Only translations go live without prior review, and always with the note.
Authorship. AI does not sign stories.
Quotes and images. We only publish quotes found in the original source. We do not publish AI-made images that look like real photos.
